Struggling With Prom?

Asked and Answered–Top Eight Frequently Asked Questions For Students and Parents

When and where is prom?

Prom takes place at Esplanade Memphis in Cordova.  Take a virtual tour of the facility here. It is located at 901 Cordova Station Ave, Cordova, TN 38018 right off Germantown Parkway. The prom will be held on April 2nd and lasts from 8pm to 11:30pm. Prom organizer and teacher sponsor, Erin Purcell gives this advice, “Spend time at the prom–you’ll regret leaving early or arriving late–it’s a once and lifetime experience!”

How do I register or buy tickets? Can they sell out?

Tickets will be on sale Thursday, March 24 until Wednesday, March 30.

See Mrs. Purcell in the lobby 4th period during those dates to receive a special code in order to purchase via GoFan. Tickets are $40/single, $75/couple PLUS GoFan service fees

Will I need to bring additional money to the prom?

Many students go out to eat prior to the prom–but once they arrive there is no need for additional cash. Beverages (tea, lemonade, and water) will be available along with a FREE professional photo booth. Houston High rents a service that provides a backdrop and printed photostrip of all participants. And, it’s totally free for all students.

Who attends the prom?

Seniors, juniors, and their dates or guests are invited to the Houston High Prom. If your date does not attend HHS, you must submit a Prom Guest Form. These forms can also be obtained from Erin Purcell when tickets go on sale. There are also certain age limitations on dates and guests (for example, a guest over the age of 20 may be denied access to prom).

What should I wear?

This is a traditional black-tie event. So tuxedos, evening gowns, or something that makes you feel elegant are appropriate.  One word of advice from students who have attended in the past–comfortable shoes are a must for dancing.  While it is certainly not required, our student sources also tell us that dates may often coordinate colors of their outfits. There is not a coat check at the prom, so plan outwear accordingly.

What do students do at prom?

Dance.  There are also plenty of tables and chairs for resting in between dancing sessions. The dance is DJ’d by Mark Anderson, who does a great job each year.  Students can also take complimentary photobooth style photos and enjoy light refreshments.  Students are required to follow school rules and policies.

Is the prom safe?

Yes. There will be a team including local law enforcement and school personnel making sure that our students are safe while at the prom.

What are some common traditions surrounding prom?  It’s probably exactly what you are imagining–most attendees exchange corsages and boutonnieres and go out to dinner prior to arriving at the prom.
