Staff Spotlight: Bobby Spillman Staff Spotlight: Bobby Spillman Staff Spotlight: Bobby Spillman Show Transcript my name is Bobby Spillman and I teach currently on his art one Advanced painting and AP drawing as an artist has kind of been a long journey obviously do the kids like most people going to King William portrait me when I stopped at 5 or so probably do two things in the environment around me is a child in that kind of led to pretty much a lifetime of drawing and playing imagine can observe them things around me and figure out how I can turn them into the visual illustrations I went back and took a painting class the University of Memphis and kind of figured out what it was that kind of set me off when I was by 18 + 19 the kind of turned me off of why I kind of found it back again I'll be seeing you no because I have a master's in painting and you know going through it like the educational system in the Arts your kind of pass with trying as many different things positive the most constant thing in my work even through with my realism phases in the last track phases and cuz he kind of Dipping. Probably has always had this element of illustration, meaning of children's books using the kind of goofy characters to come to symbolize people I know are people that interact with it's kind of weird because of the gallery artists are four shows that are for sale can do things kind of come in and out of your life you know so obviously there's pieces of mine that stick out in my head Auntie doing another seen a poster can a pretty big deal for local artists there is no painting itself is in the Memphis Airport hanging up my first teaching job with starting an art program at Bruce elementary school every kid that top I would say 95% of them were dealing with some serious trauma our home is use our personal issues and so seeing them kind of turn around and become a little more positive people and kind of how the Arts affected them and gave them the salad the kind of you know let things out in my mind and try to express themselves became I think motivate me to stay in teaching the most and it's funny because it's been 13 14 and was 15 years since I talked to his kids and most of them were in fifth grade when I left and now they're off in college or do anything and I've been having BART stations in about 45 on working in the Arts which is pretty amazing and of course the high school with little bit different I think now you start thinking more of thought you know what size of self-expression I see people as soon as you're looking at ways to further their Carthage acacian in the figure out how they can best Give vinelife In the End what opportunities are out there for me so it's kind of comes an extension of like let's heal and first and give them no spaces self-expression let's try to light your sharpen them up and make them for the world I think Published May 31, 2023 Print
