Staff Spotlight: Monica Thomas Staff Spotlight: Monica Thomas Staff Spotlight: Monica Thomas Show Transcript hello my name is Monica Thomas I am the business education teacher at Houston High School so my book is called I am different and really had that deer doing covid when just so many things was opening so many different things going on and my daughters and my husband were sick during the time and my five-year-old now who is it at the time with story just having her being comfortable with having a medical condition and they really back to her whole entire body and being okay with it eventually I thought that's how the book just kind of came to fruition doing that time so beginning of January of this year I kind of talked to her young lady you publisher about publishing a book she just kind of walked me through the process we kind of went back and forth kind of talk for months and months and at the senior celebration of my daughter and her diagnosis was for September 12th of 2020 see me we ended up publishing a book fan she has myasthenia gravis and so it's a super rare diseases normally only found in men and women in the older ages even more rare and KidZone I found it in her it was at the time they were really shocked because she was so so young and so just kind of talks about being different with a medical condition your culture what do you wear glasses or not whether you're shorter if Alex and I really wanted it to be a book for children to be able to read it so I have a lot of like easy sight words with in learning the sight words so they can start to read the book now at this item so that's kind of where I got the idea from and I really thought it would be easy for the arm and a fun book and letting them know that it's okay to be who they are and we're all made differently but it's okay she can do anything no matter what's going on in her life but even doing this time with so much stuff going on in my life personally and still being able to work and function I just want her to know that she is okay to be who she is she's strong mentally and physically and it's okay no matter what Published May 31, 2023 Print
