Pedal power: Germantown Composite Mountain Bike Team closes strong season and champions community service

The Germantown Composite Mountain Bike Team wrapped up a commendable season at the Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League's state championship race in Chattanooga on October 23.

Leading the accolades, sophomore Izzy Fischer secured an impressive 5th place finish in her category for the season. Not far behind was Junior Matthew McDonald, who competed in the typically upperclassmen-only Varsity category and placed 9th statewide.

This fall, students from Germantown schools showcased their prowess against school-sponsored mountain bike teams from across Tennessee.

Representing Houston High School:
12th Grade: Andrew Stevens and Luke Trautman
11th Grade: Matthew McDonald, Charles Allen Ortiz, and Elijah Osters
10th Grade: Izzy Fisher, Thomas Humphrey, and Alex Youngblood
9th Grade: Cole McKnight

Representing Houston Middle School:
8th Grade: Andrew Camamile, Christian Davis, Luke Holcomb, and Lukas Weinmann

Riverdale's representation came from 8th-grader Jude Fischer.

In addition to racing, community service was a season highlight. Following a storm that wreaked havoc on the trails at Herb Parsons Lake in Collierville, Germantown's team, alongside teams from Collierville and Briarcrest, rolled up their sleeves. Together, they volunteered over 500 hours to restore the trails to their former glory.

As this season comes to a close, the Germantown team is already gearing up for 2024. New riders are encouraged to join. Pre-season activities will commence in May and June, with the regular season beginning in July. Interested participants can reach out to John Humphrey, Head Coach, at [email protected].
