The Germantown Education Foundation raises and distributes funds each year for schools and teachers to benefit the students in the Germantown public school district.

The new Mini-Grant program has continued to be a success with 15 grants awarded in less than 2 months. Your donations make it happen!

October 2023 Mini-Grants Awarded:

1. Dogwood Elementary

Millicent Williams, ESL

Literacy Station Materials and Manipulatives - $335

Reading Rods for letter recognition, word building, and sentence building for students in grades 3 – 5 to help deepen understanding of context and inference.

 

2. Dogwood Elementary

Derek Brookshire, Music

Revamping the Recorders Reputation - $500

Purchase 5 different Yamaha recorders (Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) to play harmonies for songs played by 4th and 5th graders to prepare for band and orchestra instruments.

 

3. Dogwood Elementary

Ashley Luyendyk, Art

Art Classroom Rug - $435

Rug will be used as a classroom management and teaching tool. Rug is large enough to seat a class of students (“find a circle to sit and listen”), provide alternate work space, and reiterate art concepts with shapes and colors.

 

4. Riverdale K-8

Kaitlyn Frizzell, RTI

Materials for Orton-Gillingham Process for Dyslexia - $425

Intervention teaching tools needed for math and writing include flash cards, mini-sand trays, crayon boxes, student material storage boxes, binder rings, and white boards

 

5. Dogwood Elementary

Brandi Fitchpatric, School Counselor

13 Weighted Stuff Dolphin for Calming Packet Support - $480.87

Sensory tools used to help children with a variety of needs including anxiety, stress, and emotional regulation. This weighted “heavy helper” can help students regulate emotions, improve focus, and provide comfort.

7. Forest Hill Elementary

Noise-Free Assemblies Project, Headphones - $500

School assemblies are an integral part of programming however these large gatherings can be overwhelming for students with sensory sensitivities making it challenging for them to benefit from these events. Noise-canceling headphones have been shown to mitigate auditory distractions, reduce anxiety, and improve concentration.
