Houston Middle School 8th Graders Explore Electromagnetism in Ms. Starks' Science Class

August 2024 - The students were tasked with building simple electromagnets using everyday materials, including batteries and paper clips. As they wrapped wire around iron nails and connected them to batteries, the students eagerly tested the strength of their electromagnets by seeing how many paperclips their creations could pick up.

This interactive experiment not only helped students’ understanding of electromagnetic principles but also provided an opportunity to enhance their collaboration and problem-solving skills. Working in small groups, the students navigated challenges and improved their designs, turning classroom learning into practical experience.

Ms. Starks', a dedicated educator known for her creative teaching methods, emphasized the importance of such activities in making science accessible and engaging. "Hands-on experiments like these allow students to see the real-world scenarios of what they're learning. It sparks curiosity and a deeper connection to the subject matter," she said.

As these young scientists continue to explore the wonders of science, Ms. Starks' classroom remains a hub of discovery and creativity, where students are encouraged to experiment, collaborate, and think a little outside of the box!
