GMSD Celebrates Freedom Week: Engaging Students in Civic Learning

In alignment with Tennessee’s educational observances, Germantown Municipal School District is proud to participate in Freedom Week, a weeklong celebration aimed at deepening students’ understanding of American democracy, history, and individual freedoms. Building on Constitution Day, which takes place on September 17th, Freedom Week offers an expanded opportunity to explore the founding principles of the United States.

Throughout the week, classrooms across GMSD will focus on key historical documents such as the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. Students will dive into the lives and contributions of the Founding Fathers and gain a broader appreciation for the freedoms they enjoy as American citizens. The goal of Freedom Week is not only to educate students about the Constitution but also to provide an understanding of the importance of civic engagement and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Activities during Freedom Week include interactive lessons, discussions, and projects that bring these historical documents to life. Students may participate in debates, mock trials, and other engaging activities that highlight the relevance of the Constitution in today’s society. By focusing on the importance of individual freedoms, GMSD ensures that students develop a strong foundation in civic responsibility.

Parents and community members are encouraged to follow the district’s social media channels for updates and highlights of this important week. Stay tuned as we showcase the innovative ways GMSD classrooms are bringing American history to life! #gmsdaworldofourown
