GMSD Alumni Invited to Inspire Students with Career Journeys

Last week, Houston High School welcomed 2020 alumnus Owen Hardin back for an insightful Career Chat on welding. Hardin’s visit inspired students, offering a firsthand look into his journey from high school to a successful career in welding. His experience is just one example of the remarkable paths GMSD alumni take after graduation.

In another celebration of alumni success, GMSD proudly recognizes Justice Mary Wagner, a former Mustang who was recently sworn in as a Tennessee Supreme Court Justice. During the ceremony at the Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC), Justice Wagner paid tribute to several of her former teachers—retired educators Ms. Karen Garrison, Mr. Jim Smith, and Ms. Lee Tanner—highlighting their impact on her life. The Houston High Band, where Wagner once played, performed at the event, adding a meaningful connection to her roots.

Stories like Owen’s and Justice Wagner’s serve as powerful inspiration for current students. GMSD encourages alumni with interesting career journeys to share their experiences through Career Chats. Alumni interested in participating are encouraged to contact College and Career Counselors Ashley Kreitz and Sara Schmitt.
