Houston High School’s Homecoming 2024: “There’s No Place Like Home”

Houston High School celebrated Homecoming 2024 where HHS SGA hosted a week of spirited activities that brought together students, staff, and the community. Students were able to enjoy music from DJ Will Coleman and a night of dancing at the Coronet Memphis. Themed dress-up days followed: Pajama Day on Monday, Vacation Gear on Tuesday, Wednesday’s Jersey Day, which featured a special “Cop Stop” to honor 9/11, and  Thursday was “Homies Day” where students and staff wore matching outfits with their friends.

The highly anticipated color wars pep rally wrapped up the week on Friday, with students proudly wearing their class colors: orange for freshmen, blue for sophomores, yellow for juniors, and pink for seniors. Fall sports teams were celebrated ahead of the homecoming football game, and students enjoyed friendly competitions like dodgeball and Hungry Hippos to bring the spirit!

Under the Friday night lights in the rain, the Houston Mustangs football team dominated the field with a 42-3 victory over the Cordova Wolves. At halftime, the 2024 Homecoming Court took center stage with support from the Houston Band and color guard. Princesses that were named are freshman Greta Newhouse, sophomore Halle Signagio, and junior Maeve Couvillion. Senior Isabelle Bittner was crowned Homecoming Queen by Principal Hallie Ross.

From the opening dance to the massive football win, Homecoming 2024 brought the school spirit and showcases the GMSD community. Houston High’s Wizard of Oz-inspired theme, “There’s no place like home,” reminded everyone of the strong Mustang pride that ties us all together.
