GMSD Launches Parent Engagement Workshop Series with "IEP 101"

GMSD Launches Parent Engagement Workshop Series with "IEP 101"!

Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) is proud to introduce its new Parent Engagement Workshop Series, designed to strengthen the connection between parents, educators, and support staff, particularly those involved in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. The first session, "IEP 101," will take place on Thursday, September 26, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the district office.

This inaugural workshop will offer parents a comprehensive overview of the IEP framework, helping them gain a deeper understanding of how individualized plans are created and implemented to support students with disabilities. Topics will include how IEPs are designed to meet specific educational needs, the roles and responsibilities of each team member, and ways to effectively collaborate with teachers and specialists.

"This initiative comes directly from parent feedback," said Jason Manuel, Superintendent of GMSD. "We want to ensure that families feel confident and supported throughout the IEP process and have access to the resources they need."

The Parent Engagement Workshop Series was created in response to families' requests for more guidance and involvement in the special education process. GMSD is committed to empowering parents to be effective advocates for their children’s educational success. Future sessions will feature guest speakers and focus on various aspects of IEPs, including advocacy strategies and progress monitoring.

Parents of students with IEPs were invited to attend the workshops, and today marks the final day to register for the "IEP 101" session. With spots filling quickly, parents are encouraged to sign up and take advantage of this unique opportunity to become stronger partners in their child's education.
