Dogwood Elementary Students Dive into Creative Learning with VR, Spelling, and Figurative Language Fun

Dogwood Elementary had an action-packed week as students engaged in hands-on activities that sparked both creativity and learning. Fifth graders embraced the message of Fish in a Tree, celebrating the importance of individuality and different learning styles. Mrs. Guynes and Ms. Fredrick led the charge with inventive classroom activities, such as spelling words in shaving cream and dressing up as figurative language expressions. From "raining cats and dogs" to "butterflies in the stomach," students' costumes added a playful, educational twist to the lesson. To cap off the week, the fifth graders illustrated a collaborative mural, symbolizing how individual contributions come together to form something larger, mirroring the story's theme.

Elsewhere in the school, third graders took their learning to new depths—literally. Using virtual reality headsets, they explored underwater landscapes, encountering sharks and other sea life to bring their Shark Attack nonfiction readings to life. The immersive VR experience provided an unforgettable way to reinforce their lessons on marine life, transforming reading into a fully interactive adventure.

These creative approaches to learning made for an exciting week at Dogwood Elementary, where students not only expanded their knowledge but also engaged with the material in fun and memorable ways.
