Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) recently honored Veterans Day with district-wide celebrations that paid tribute to the service and sacrifice of veterans. Each school contributed uniquely to the occasion, creating a memorable day filled with patriotism, gratitude, and community spirit.
Houston Middle School’s band and orchestra traveled throughout the district, sharing patriotic music at different schools. Their performances resonated with students and veterans alike, filling hallways with music celebrating America and its defenders. This powerful display fostered a sense of appreciation and unity, setting a meaningful tone for the day.
At Riverdale K-8 School, students participated in “I Love America Day,” featuring the popular Parade of States. Students proudly marched with state flags, displaying their patriotism before an enthusiastic crowd of families, friends, and veterans. This event allowed students to express pride in their country and connect with the community in an educational experience.
Forest Hill Elementary hosted a Veterans Day program that included music, student performances, and guest speakers. The event gave students the chance to meet veterans, hear their stories, and deepen their understanding of veterans’ sacrifices. By sharing their experiences, veterans helped students appreciate the importance of service and freedom. The program was live-streamed, making it accessible to the broader community and allowing everyone to join in honoring the veterans.
At Dogwood Elementary, students and staff welcomed veterans from their families and community in a touching celebration. The school invited veterans to share their stories, giving students an opportunity to express gratitude personally and fostering a sense of respect for those who served.
Farmington Elementary also held a Veterans Day recognition event, including a walk-through to honor veterans in the community. Students lined the hallway, waving flags and holding signs with messages of appreciation. The atmosphere was both celebratory and reflective, underscoring the values of sacrifice and bravery that veterans embody.
Superintendent Jason Manuel shared a message with the GMSD community, saying, “Happy Veterans Day! Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. To all our veterans in the GMSD community—thank you for your service, courage, and sacrifice.”
He continued, “Across our district, students had the privilege of celebrating alongside veterans, bringing to life the meaning of this important day through parades, choirs, bands, orchestras, and inspiring student and guest speakers. The halls were filled with patriotic music, and students had the chance to honor their favorite veterans by inviting them to join us at school.”
He concluded, “As we reflect on why we celebrate Veterans Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy and the sacrifices made by those who served to protect them. To our veterans—your example leaves a lasting impact on our students, and we salute you today and every day.”
Through music, parades, and meaningful tributes, GMSD honored veterans in a way that deeply impacted students and community members alike.
