GMSD Students Take the Stage in The Wizard of Oz

Three Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) students are bringing the beloved story of The Wizard of Oz to life at Playhouse on the Square, Memphis’s only professional resident theater. Running now through December 22, this production invites audiences to relive the magic of Dorothy’s journey through Oz, celebrating friendship, courage, and self-discovery.

Among the cast are Dogwood Elementary’s Roper Oswald (5th grade), Houston Middle’s Rainorah Pare (7th grade), and Farmington Elementary’s Roman Pare (3rd grade). These young talents perform alongside professional actors, gaining invaluable experience in a rigorous and immersive theatrical environment.

Playhouse on the Square, renowned for its dedication to high-quality productions and community engagement, provides a rare opportunity for young performers to work with seasoned artists. The students participate in daily rehearsals, mastering choreography, music, and dialogue, and perform for both school matinees and evening public audiences.

Roper Oswald expressed his enthusiasm for the production, sharing, “I love being in Munchkinland! The choreography is really fun. But my favorite scene in the musical to watch is Jitterbug because it’s my favorite song.”

Don’t miss the chance to witness these GMSD stars and their castmates in this nostalgic production. For showtimes and ticket information, visit playhouseonthesquare.org.
