Discovery Days: January 15, 2024 until January 26, 2024 each school in GMSD will be open for tours during the school day. This period will serve as an open house, but pre-registration for a school-day tour is required. During the period of Discovery Days Houston High School will also host their student and parent preview nights. Discovery Days are designed for students and families who are new to the GMSD community to come and learn more.
Honors Academy: Students must apply to be a part of the Honors Academy at Houston High School. This academy is only available at HHS, and it is designed to challenge students to pursue academic excellence and community service. During their senior year, Honors Academy students must complete a capstone project.
Intra-District Transfer: Allows Germantown residents who are zoned for a GMSD school the opportunity to transfer from the GMSD school they are zoned for to another GMSD school. Those interested in applying for an intra-district transfer must complete this application during School Choice (Open Enrollment). Intra-District transfers are limited and not guaranteed.
Leadership Academy: Students must apply to be a part of the Leadership Academy at Houston High School. This academy is only available at HHS, and it is designed to help students remain deeply involved in their community through leadership, personal responsibility, community service, and extracurricular activities. During their senior year, Leadership Academy students must complete a capstone project.
Out of District Transfer: School Choice (Open Enrollment) for current non-resident students and prospective students who live outside the Germantown Municipal school zone. An Out of District transfer provides the opportunity for out of district families to apply to attend a GMSD school.
Registration: Enrollment into a GMSD school; must be completed by all students and is separate from any other applications including HHS academies, open enrollment, and shared residency.
School Choice (Open Enrollment): Allows out of district families the opportunity to apply to attend a GMSD school and provides the opportunity for Germantown residents that are zoned for a GMSD school to apply for a transfer to a different GMSD school than the one they are zoned for.
Shadow Days: Provides incoming students the opportunity to follow or “shadow” a current HHS student as they go to their classes and complete their schedule for the day. Shadow days are only available at Houston High School. Contact HHS Admission here to schedule a shadow day.
Shared Residency: Parents/guardians who live with another Germantown resident. These families must provide additional information for Shared Residency verification. Contact the office of Student Services for more information: (901) 752-7889.
Tours: Provides new or incoming students and families the opportunity to visit our schools and facilities with either student tour guides or a faculty member tour guide.
