Superintendent Jason Manuel, who himself is both a product of Germantown schools, has been an educator in Germantown for the past 28 years. He’s been a student, a teacher, an assistant principal, and a principal.
Mr. Manuel attended Farmington Elementary School through 8th grade and then went on to graduate from Germantown High School in 1989. He received a Bachelor of Science from University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1994, and then a Masters in Education in 1995. In 2009, he received his Education Specialist degree from Union University. He taught science at Houston High School from 1995-2008. During his time as a classroom instructor, he taught Horticulture, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Journalism, and served as the assistant boys and girls soccer coach. In 2008, he became an assistant principal at Houston High School, and then in 2011, Mr. Manuel was named the principal of Houston Middle School.
About nine years ago today, Mr. Manuel was hired as the first Superintendent of Germantown Municipal Schools. Under his helm, the District has seen numerous achievements such as earning the highest district ACT average for in the state of TN for many consecutive years and has continued to show academic growth with Germantown’s high performing students. He has led the district in completing over $96 million dollars in capital improvements in our schools. Many of our school projects, such as Riverdale School and Forest Hill have been both locally and nationally recognized for exceptional design.
He believes in community engagement. Mr. Manuel was awarded the National School Public Relations Association Superintendents To Watch Award early on in his tenure. He was also awarded the TSSAA A. F. Bridges Award for outstanding integrity and ethics in leadership. In 2020, Germantown was proud that Mr. Manuel was recognized as the state’s Regional Superintendent of the Year by the TN Department of Education. Mr. Manuel also represents all regional superintendents as the director of the southwest core as well as the executive council to the TN Commissioner of Education.
